Why do boys value reputation so much? It's so strange to see boys try so hard to be cool all the time.
I think they’re trained to value being tough and looking like “a man”.
Is it wrong to be tough or masculine? No.
It does become a problem when they’re taught to value those traits, and their reputations as “a tough, no-one-fucks-with-me, man” above all things.
There is masculinity (good) and toxic masculinity (bad). I think so many of our young men today are being taught the difference and are going to be great human beings. We have to work towards making sure as many as possible end up as good human beings.
